Cotinus 'Dusky Maiden'

Cotinus Coggygria 'Dusky Maiden' is a hybrid variety of Cotinus szechuanensis and Cotinus coggygria ‘Velvet Cloak’. Cotinus plants produce flower panicles throughout Summer, which resemble hazy clouds of smoke, giving it the common name 'Smokebush'. The 'Dusky Maiden' is a compact deciduous shrub with rounded purple-red foliage, that turns a vibrant orange-red in winter. These long-lasting leaves can appear translucent when backlit by sun.

Cotinus are low-maintenance, hardy shrubs that will thrive well in moist, well-drained soil. The shrub can be planted in a position with full or partial sun; however, the leaf colour will be most vibrant in full sun. The plant responds well to pruning in late winter or early spring.
